Cristina Prats-Costa

Violon baroque

Described in The Strad magazine as a "leader playing with uncommon sensitivity", Spanish violinist Cristina Prats-Costa is a versatile baroque player passionate about building a vibrant relationship with her colleagues and audience. She is honoured to have been elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM), London, in 2019 and was awarded both the Christopher Hogwood Award and the Excellence Scholarship.

Cristina performs and has recorded with groups like Arcangelo Ensemble (UK), The English Concert (UK), L'Harmonie des Saisons (Montreal), Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Toronto Bach Festival (Toronto), Brecon Baroque (UK), Il Pomo D'Oro (Italy), Orchestra of the Eighteen Century (Netherlands), Cape Town Baroque (South Africa), Holland Baroque (Netherlands), Finnish Baroque Orchestra (Finland), Mercury Baroque (Houston), House of Times, and Concerto Napoletano (New York) among others. Cristina co-founder and first violin of the Alauda Quartet, who won the Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music, the Park Lane Group Award, and the Making Music Emerging Artist Award (London, UK). They were first prize and public prize winners at the International Chamber Music Competition "Massimiliano Antonelli" in Italy, in addition to being prize winners at the Orlando International Competition. The Alauda Quartet's debut CD features the complete string quartets of the Italian composer Roffredo Caetani released by Brilliant Classics with the support of the Caetani foundation. Cristina studied at the Guildhall School of Music and The Royal Academy of Music (London), in The Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien (Hannover), at the Royal Conservatory The Hague, and most recently completed her Masters Degree in Historically Informed Performance at The Juilliard School (New York) graduating in 2024. She has recently performed as soloist Vivaldi's Concerto, Il Grosso Mogul, in New York, Cape Town (South Africa) and London (United Kingdom). She is currently doing a DMA in performance at the University of Toronto and has won the Shalom Ben-Uri DMA Competition.
